This is how it looked for much of the day today – heavy smoke in the air from the fires, and a strong smell of smoke. The mountains looked like shadows. We passed one road up into the mountains which was closed, so we were pretty close. The 270 fires in BC were all started by lightening.
Saw a number of Harleys going north, guess Sturgis is over.
Crossed over the border back into USA today.
Stopped at Jax for a huckleberry milkshake, they really know how to do a milkshake here, that’s maybe a third. 2 years’ ago I wrote my name on the wall here, as you did back then, but couldn’t find it 🙁 Think it was behind some artwork.
Huckleberries look like blueberries but a bit tarter. They can’t be cultivated, they can only be gathered from the wild.
Kalispell > Darby, 302km
The other day the temps started off at 8 and finished at 37 . Today we started off at 25, such a change from just a few days’ ago.
Bit clearer this morning, started off riding alongside this beautiful long lake.
It’s very dry around here…
but not for long – a storm was brewing quickly so we made a dash for it.
Got the bikes under cover too before the rain came with thunder and lightening, didn’t last long though.
Guess what this is… that’s right, chicken noodle soup. I just ate the sandwich.
Wow was wondering what started the fires how scary – keep safe! Can you buy lightening made glass things around there?
Yum huckleberry smoothie looks amazing and all from wild berrys.
Would have been cool if you found your name – hope you wrote it again hehe
Ew, whats with that soup! Looks like chips in it, ha ha , chip soup , the shake looks good though , yummm
Hi Heather – I ordered a sandwich and that was great; the soup came as an extra and I was grateful for the explanation 🙂
